About Old Post Books

Old Post Books is an independent digital newspaper covering Literature, History, Reviews, Books and Art.

Books arrive with ancestors, and a review that ignores them is only half written. It is part of VUGA Network, a group of independent digital publications published in the United States.

Every piece begins with a complete reading, and coverage is not tied to publication week.

Reviews name what a book is attempting and judge whether it succeeds, quoting enough to let a reader disagree. Where a first edition, a translator or a restored text changes the case, that gets said.

What We Cover

Books is the general desk: new releases, backlist recoveries and editions worth owning.

Literature takes the longer view — the development of forms, what writers grouped into a movement genuinely shared, the effect of translation on a text, and why particular books survive their first reception — written without jargon, for readers who enjoy criticism as much as fiction.

History follows how books were made, sold, banned and read: print runs and paper shortages, censorship regimes, circulating libraries, the paperback shift and the distribution systems that decided who could read what, dates and figures included.

Books News keeps the file on prizes, newly found manuscripts, estate and copyright disputes, translation rights and bookshop openings or closures, while business coverage examines the trade beneath it all — bookseller margins, wholesale discount structures, print costs, and the earnings of a mid-list title, with sources named where possible.

Blurb-writing is refused, so are reviews built from a publisher's summary, and a verdict is never softened because an author is admired.
